About PITTCARE

Why the center exists, how it started, the terms we use, and how to reach us.

History

Founded in 2026

PITTCARE was formed in 2026 under the leadership of Department of Family Medicine Co-Chairs Eric Frankel and Mark Meyer.

The center exists to meet a specific need: automation and Intelligence-Technology are moving through medicine faster than most institutions can absorb. Dr. Frankel and Dr. Meyer formed PITTCARE to make sure that as this happens, it happens with the people care is for — patients, families, and the clinicians who see them every day — rather than around them. Bringing those voices into the conversation intentionally, not as an afterthought, is the reason the center exists, and it's why the Voice of the People Survey is the center's flagship program rather than a side project.
